ramen break

oh man this took forever. D: I think I did this drawing a month ago when I started school and only got around to coloring it now. err. it's for ~deepforest's Pokemon contest. This is a character based on myself and her Raichu, Sukazi. Scuzzy is an old old old Pikachu character of mine.. "Sukazi" is just my approximate Japanese version of it. I wanted my trainer version to be similar to me, but as if I were in an entirely different universe.

-Your characters name- Krystina
-Gender- Androgynous (female I guess )
-Personality- Quiet, soft-spoken, contemplative. she spends most of her time in her head. sensitive and open-minded. empathetic.
-Why they are a trainer- Long story... won't get into her past but she grows up withdrawn and with next to no self-esteem. she has no friends; she's too shy to approach people, and they assume she's a loner. stuff combines and around age 15 or 16 she has something of an emotional/mental breakdown that lands her in a hospital. as part of her outpatient therapy she is enrolled in a program that provides mentally ill children with Pokemon companions. her therapist figures it might help her grow to have someone to take care of, and to keep her company. She is given a low level Pikachu, who she names Scuzzy after his rather splotchy markings, and a lot of her time and energy after that is preoccupied with training the Pokemon. it takes her mind off of things at least. the two become fast friends despite having rather opposite personalities. eventually as the last step of her therapy, she decides to leave home with Scuzzy and travel. it's sort of to simultaneously get away from the environment she grew up in, and to take a rather literal journey to discover herself. training and winning battles eventually helps her self-esteem and draws her out to interact with others. guess you could say it changes her whole life around. she does not like her Pokemon to feel subordinated. Sukazi walks at her side as an equal, and her other Pokemon stay because they want to. she wants others to treat Pokemon (and people, too) in the same way. she knows very well how it feels to be so far below someone else.
-Extra stuff?- Speaks some Japanese, likes to draw and write. and eat ramen.

-Personality- Very energetic and friendly. he's curious about everything, which tends to get him into a bit of trouble sometimes. likes to make most everything a game and takes challenges with enthusiasm. not quite aware of others' personal boundaries. can be a bit of a sore loser. he desparately wants to make his trainer proud and make her smile, so he will get rather down on himself about losing. he considers it his duty to protect her, since she can't stand up for herself.
-Best attack- Thunder, Mega Kick
-Extra stuff?- His name is changed to Sukazi after he evolves to Raichu - he evolves in a situation where he is trying desparately to win a losing battle for his trainer. I consider him my ideal Pokemon because my attack strategy in almost any game of this sort is a combination of speed, quick physical attacks, and heavy elemental damage. paralyzing and lowering the opponent's accuracy is also good, so you can get in more hits and take less damage. his four attacks: Quick Attack, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Mega Kick


yup. well. I really enjoyed working on this... I absolutely love these characters and will probably draw Sukazi quite a bit. Pokemon was a pretty big part of my childhood so I wasn't going to pass this one by... I really don't know where I'd be now if it wasn't for Pokemon, heh.
