Description

..so I guess I've never explained this whole aspect to Tigrin's story. well I will now, from what I've figured (and this is always a work in progress)...

The Ganymede terraformation project was christened "Second Genesis", as its supreme goal was to essentially recreate the Genesis. Terraformation was the ultimate show of human pride and power, the ability to play God. Part of the project was the genetic engineering of an intelligent, sentient species - the furrecats. The first successful prototype of the species - the Adam of the Second Genesis - was named Aleph. Others were created based on this prototype. In their fascination and arrogance, humans essentially hardwired the furrecat species with various human aspects: social codes, expressions, language.. and religion. Humans saw themselves as The Creators, the gods of the furrecats, and wrote the creation story into the furrecat species. The furrecats revered humans as gods - anthropolatry.

When the secrets covering up this project collapsed, all evidence of the creation of the furrecat species was erased from Earth. Ganymede and all its creations were forgotten, and the furrecat species evolved with their religion, building up oral histories, legends, prophecies, and practices. They waited for the eventual return of their gods. When the humans did return, there was no question in the minds of the furrecats that these were the gods their ancestors' ancestors had told them about. They worshipped and praised the humans. Confused, but stricken with greed, the human explorers took advantage of the abundance of willing subjects. Claiming superiority due to the simple fact that the furrecats were not human, the human race soon opened up the booming industries on Earth that came to dominate furrecat experience.

Some disgruntled furrecats, tired of their tyrannical "gods", began to spread prophecies of the coming of a messiah, a liberator of the furrecat race that would bring them all into the light of Truth. This prophecy came to be fulfilled in Tigrin, who began his humble origins when he was kidnapped from Ganymede and forced to spend his childhood working in a station on Earth. Strong-willed, and destined for greater things, he escaped back to Ganymede, carrying with him all the knowledge of the humans and their true ways. He began to spread the Truth, calling for the furrecats to abandon their false gods. He called for freedom. Mostly he was ostracized, alienated by his own people, neither of the human world or the furrecat world. But he also had followers. And as his word began to spread, so did the revolution, sparking a flame across Earth and Ganymede.

yep.

I am not sure if you intended this or not, but Tigrin seems to be an allegory of Christ to me. Sort of like Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S.Lewis. If you ever write the story down I would love to read it.
