concept - Cody

I think one of my friends told me that I don't mention my Titan AE characters' stories very often here, not quite like I mention the furrecats, so... I will attempt to explain this guy's story. without getting too violently ill, I hope, and without spacing out too much.


Cody is sort of the bastard result of the rape of Tai's girlfriend, Melody, by the slave master. When he found out that Melody was pregnant he tried to have the child aborted, against Melody's will, but Tai got in the way. He swore he would not support the child. Largely thanks to Tai's constant help, Melody went through the pregnancy and had Cody, who was born relatively healthy, though small. However, Melody was only 13 and the environment was extremely ill-suited, so she came out on the worse end of the whole deal. She gets an infection and, without any medical support, dies within weeks of having Cody. The slave master's mistress takes in Cody after that, until Cody is weaned, and gives Cody back to Tai and Dover, the only ones left after Melody's death. Tai is in no condition to help raise a child and wants nothing to do with Cody at first, who only reminds him of Melody and the circumstances behind Cody's birth. Dover ends up the one who takes care of Cody the most, as Dover has taken on a very paternal role as the eldest of the three.

Cody never knows any of that as a child, though... Tai and Dover are all he knows as family. He's a relatively normal toddler, though quiet and somewhat detached. Since he's so young he never really experiences any abuse or hard labor as a slave, but does witness some of the abuse that happens to his "uncles". He's carried out of slavery when he's three, when Tai leads an escape and Dover burns down most of the farm. haven't worked out the details here. Dover eventually decides to keep Cody, and they go their separate ways... Dover takes Cody to live with him on a drifter colony for a few years. Dover meets a girl there who eventually moves in with them. Cody associates the girl with the mistress at the farm, having no experience of a mother, so is thus both open and wary of her. The girl wants very little to do with Cody, as he isn't even related to Dover, and is annoyingly quiet, as she puts it. when Dover gets married she attempts to force Cody to be more social and talkative. in just the opposite direction, Cody eventually develops selective mutism, especially towards adults, who he associates with the slave master; the only person he speaks to is Dover.

when Cody is about seven, the drifter colony is transferred to New Earth. the family settles in and enrolls Cody in a make-shift school started up in the area. Cody has a difficult time fitting in with the other children, as he can't speak to them; all the other children also come from a rather wide variety of experience and division. He eventually grows out of his selective mutism but remains a very private person. as a teenager he typically struggles a lot with his identity, especially when he learns of his origins.


.. yeeup. there's probably a lot more I could develop to the character right now, but I'm kinda... eh, spacing out too much.
